Joy grew up in rural Wisconsin, the eldest daughter of an elementary school teacher and a soil conservationist. One of her fondest memories with her father is planting trees together on their property overlooking the Mississippi River.
Her first career was as a writer and editor at metropolitan daily newspapers in the United States and Mexico. She covered a broad range of subjects including energy and the environment, and won state and national awards for investigative reporting, feature writing and special event coverage.
During seven years on staff at IBM, Joy wrote speeches for the CEO, developed the company’s worldwide environmental communications plan and helped create the company’s global strategy for corporate social responsibility.
But something deeper kept calling to her and – in 1991 – Joy left IBM to become an independent writer and consultant. At the same time she served high-profile clients such as IBM, Hewlett-Packard, the United Nations and The Business Roundtable (an organization of the CEOs of leading American companies), Joy continued to create visionary art and strengthen her alignment with Spirit.
In 2007, Joy declared, “I want to be working on whatever is so important – if I only had six months to live – that’s what I should do.” That summer, she was guided to make a driving trip from Santa Fe to Montana. Along the way, she began to receive the images and revelations that became the foundation of this journey and the books that describe and illustrate it.

“It’s an honor to be opening this new path of pilgrimage,” Joy says. “I love sharing these images and insights in a way that inspires, entertains, informs and uplifts others on their own joyous journeys. Every trip we take brings the opportunity for new discoveries, new adventures and the deeper meaning that can touch our hearts and souls.”
